Excessive alcohol consumption

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, excessive alcohol consumption is responsible for one in 10 deaths among working-age adults in the United States. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which are produced jointly every five years by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture, advise adults about healthy alcohol consumption.

According to the guidelines, women should consume no more than one drink per day while men should limit their consumption to two drinks per day or less. Consuming more alcohol than the guidelines suggest can prove fatal, as the CDC notes that binge drinking is responsible for almost half the deaths related to excessive alcohol consumption.
